Marge Shipton, Cobargo

My Triangle 2009.08

‘Have you had your lunch?’ Marge Shipton greeted me as I turned up to talk about her life spent dairying in the Triangle. Born in Cobargo at the home of Midwife Nurse Hadget in the early 1930s, Marge was the third child to Robert and Margaret (Hyland) Blacka. Raised on a dairy farm at Quaama and later on Tarlinton’s farm “Cadjancarry” in Verona, Marge and her two older brothers helped with the hand milking.

In 1949 Marge’s … Read more »

My Triangle 2009.07

Brock was born in Bega Hospital on 18 January 1998 and has lived in Bermagui all his life. He is a local sporting icon, equally at home in the surf or on a football field. He is a member of the Bermagui Board Riders, winning their 2007/08 junior competition and finishing runner-up in 2008/09. On the footy field, soccer is his main love and he is a stalwart of the Cobargo/Dry River Club. His soccer prowess saw … Read more »

Dave Bennett, boomerang

My Triangle 2009.06

He was really keen to return to the area and three or so years ago did just that, and became the proprietor and licensee of Pam’s Store in Tilba Tilba. He has no regrets regarding his boomerang relocation. From day one, the locals greeted him and his family warmly and made them welcome in their new surroundings.

Dave shares his home with wife Angela and daughter Kelly. … Read more »

My Triangle 2009.04

Beryl Schaefer has lived in the Triangle all of her life. She was born in Cobargo Maternity Hospital. The hospital, now a private house, was operating until the late 1940s under the care of a midwife; it closed on her retirement. Of course there was scant chance of getting to Bega in time in those days, most of the roads were unsealed and it would have been several hours’ drive in a horse and sulky.

The Triangle … Read more »

Sheena Boughen, Four Winds Chair

My Triangle 2009.03

When did you first arrive in the Triangle region?

When Bill and I bought a farm at Verona in 1990, we moved there and set it up as a dairy farm with our neighbour. I had no idea what adventures were before me, being an inner city girl!

What type of work do you do?

I have my own consulting company, and work as a strategic facilitator on social and environmental issues with large … Read more »
