South Coast Music Camp Returns!
Founded by Geoffrey Badger and sponsored by Four Winds, the South Coast Music Camp is open to everyone, regardless of age or musical experience. Whether you’re new to your instrument or have been playing for years, come along to the Mumbulla School in Bega from Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October to build your skills, make new friends and experience the joy of making music together.
This year’s outstanding tutors include members of Acacia Quartet and teachers from the Sydney and Wollongong Conservatoriums. Many of them are among the best of Australia’s musicians and have performed with award-winning artists. The program has four main streams: Orchestral, Concert Band, Choral and Whole Camp Orchestra. Within the Orchestral and Concert Band streams, participants are grouped according to their experience and confidence levels, so everyone learns at a pace that suits them.
The repertoire is carefully chosen to be enjoyable and appropriately challenging without feeling overwhelming. There are also electives like improvisation, chamber music and private lessons in areas of interest. There’s plenty of flexibility and activities like meditation, visual art or even a game of frisbee!
It all contributes to a relaxed, creative learning environment and it’s beneficial to your music practice too. Don’t be nervous! We’ve had people attend who had only just started playing, couldn’t read music or even tune their instrument. The progress they make in just one week is remarkable. If you have any worries or concerns, please get in touch to have a chat, because we’d hate fear or worry to be the reason you didn’t take part.
Just bring your instrument. We provide delicious food – lunch, morning and afternoon tea every day – and there’s plenty of support throughout the week. You’ll play for around three to four hours a day with regular breaks, so it’s a full but enjoyable experience.
Fees include all tuition, ensemble experiences, meals and a camp T-shirt. The cost is $450 for the first family member, $350 for the second and $250 for each additional participant. We know there is a lot of pressure on families at the moment, so if cost is a barrier, please get in touch. We’re committed to making attendance possible wherever we can.
