String Quartet at Four Winds in November
Lately at Four Winds we have enjoyed contemporary and world music, informative panels and choirs, and exquisite classical music is coming on Sunday 2 November at 2.00 pm.
Celebrating ten years of playing together this year, the globally-recognised, Melbourne-based Affinity Quartet will perform Incantation in Four Parts by French composer Héloise Werner, Movement for String Quartet by Australian violist and composer Justin Williams and Debussy’s groundbreaking work String Quartet in G minor.
From 2025 to 2028 Affinity Quartet is the Artist-in-Residence at Four Winds. These residencies often extend into workshops, performances, retreats and seminars, fostering creativity that resonates far beyond the performance space. So, we will be seeing these lovely young musicians in the Windsong Pavilion but also in our schools as part of the remarkable work of Youth and Community Engagement Director, David Hewitt, that exposes young people in our community to the world-class musicians Four Winds brings to Barragga Bay.
This quartet has won more prizes than can be listed here, but one particularly notable accolade was becoming the first Australian string quartet to reach the finals of London’s Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, winning Third Prize in 2022. Their public programs earn praise for ‘captivating playing’ (Süddeutsche Zeitung), ‘flawless ensemble’ (Limelight Magazine), ‘highly committed’ (The Age), and ‘first class string playing’ (Classic Melbourne).
Come along on Sunday 2 November from 12.30 pm for food and bar, and to sit down and close your eyes for Affinity Quartet at 2.00 pm. Tickets will cost $45 and you can bring your kids under 16 for free.
