South Coast Drama and Dance Festival 2025
On 3 September 2025, students from Cobargo Public School performed at the South Coast Dance and Drama Festival held at the Yuin Theatre, Bay Pavilions, Batemans Bay.
The Festival lit up Batemans Bay as students from many local schools took to the stage showcasing remarkable resilience and talent. It was postponed last year due to severe weather, the rescheduled event combined the region’s dance and drama festivals, delivering a memorable performance that energised the community.
Drama
Sixteen talented students from Years 2-6 proudly represented Cobargo Public School in the Far South Coast Dance Festival. After weeks of dedicated rehearsals during recess and afternoon sessions, the group performed The Brothers’ Bond – a story of loyalty, betrayal and the unbreakable ties of family.
The performance was enhanced by stunning costumes and face paint. Inspired by The Lion King, the designs featured lions, zebras, flamingos and giraffes in earthy tones, bold black-and-white patterns and bright pink highlights.
Blending drama and dance, the play told the tale of two brothers – one destined for the throne, the other drawn into darkness. In a world of roaring laughter, fierce rivalry and dangerous ambition, the pride soon learns that even the strongest of bonds can break. Audiences were transported to the Heart of the Savannah by the students’ energy, enthusiasm and commitment.
Dance
Our dance piece, Thunder, captivated the audience with its vivid depiction of a thunderstorm, highlighting creativity, teamwork and determination.
Cobargo students dedicated themselves through weekly rehearsals during breaks and increasing their efforts as the performance night neared. Twelve girls portrayed thunder with bold, commanding movements, then swiftly transformed into radiant suns with their glittering gold skirts catching the Pavilion’s lights. Other dancers dressed in flowing blue costumes to represent the rain, alongside hikers who were ‘caught’ in the storm.
The students’ impressive maturity and stage presence earned them high praise from the audience.
