And so the music played!
The auditorium at the Bermagui Country Club was packed to the rafters on Saturday 20 September. Both locals and visitors were there to attend a fundraising concert organised by Lori Hammerton on behalf of Bega Valley Can Assist – the local cancer awareness network.
An impressive $1,830 was raised through entry charges, donations and raffles. These dollars will go a long way to assist someone in the Bega Valley undergoing treatment for cancer.
The audience was entertained by a variety of musicians – from country music, blues harmonica to our local Bermagui ukulele group – Bermagui Ukalips. Well-known local performer, Joe Driscoll, had the audience up on their feet and dancing throughout the afternoon.
A very special appearance from Dame Edna Everage (an incognito member of Bermagui CWA) and her troop of ‘Aussies’ had the audience in fits of laughter as only the gals from the CWA can do.
The organisers would like to thank all those who attended, the Bermagui Country Club for their support, the CWA ladies and the musicians who freely gave up their time, to Lyn, Jan and Renee who manage the door – no one gets past these girls! Lastly, big thanks to all those who donated prizes for the raffle, the Bermagui Quilters and Joy Masterson for the lovely quilts.
The Bermagui Ukalips supports Bega Valley Can Assist through fundraising and busking at local markets and outside Woolworths from time to time. In the last six years the Ukalips has contributed over $23,000 to Can Assist. So, if you see the group out there busking, please throw a few coins into the hat as it all goes to
help locals.
